April 6th Letter to Parents & Students

Letter to Parents and Students

Hello Parents and Students,

I hope that you and your family are keeping well during these times of social distancing and self-isolation. Over the past couple of weeks our teachers and staff have been working around the clock to create resources and supports to help students navigate this situation in a smooth manner.

We are all thinking of you during this difficult time. Please reach out so that VES can be responsive to your needs. You may reach your child’s teacher by email, or by contacting VES at 535-2486 and a message will be relayed to them.

Kaye Haddock is your school counselor, and she is also available for your assistance during this transitional phase in education. You may reach out to her at [email protected], or at 850-583-6763.

Additionally, we have placed the link below on our VES home page to the Child Safety Matters website. On this website, you will find parent resources available to teach your children age appropriate safety measures.

Here is the link:
Parents will need to click on "Parent Resources" to access child safety matters materials and lessons.

How School Counselors Help Students

    • Encourage positive attitudes among students toward self, family, peers and community

    • Counsel students, individually and in groups, to encourage understanding and appreciation for their unique attributes and qualities

    • Promote personal and social growth

    • Support students in developing an individual plan for academic success.

    • Develop and deliver classroom lessons that teach skills related to character education development, anti-bullying behaviors, techniques for making healthy decisions, and methods for resolving conflicts

    • Challenge students to become invested in their school success by providing instruction on how school performance relates to career opportunities and personal development

    • work collaboratively with students, parents, and teachers to identify and remove barriers that may impede student achievement
